Missing in Action

At the standing room only Candidates’ Forum last night that was broadcasted throughout the County, incumbent Supervisor Ted Novelli was missing, with his name tag hanging in front of an empty chair.

Supervisor Novelli decided to have his big “Spring Fling” fundraiser at Stanley’s National Hotel, at the exact same time that the candidates’ debate was taking place next door at the Civic Center.

Once again, Ted displayed his sense of entitlement by socializing with the high and mighty, instead of addressing the concerns and questions from the various Amador County organizations hosting the forum. Supervisor Novelli has also refused all invitations to debate from many of our upcountry organizations, including church and civic groups.

One might question why Ted would hold his main event in Jackson, catering to folks who mostly do not even live upcountry. This is just a reminder of the fact that Jackson and the Chamber of Commerce have had a long history of influencing elections throughout our County.

Contributions to candidates are are matter of public record, and Ted Novelli’s recent financial reporting is quite revealing…he has collected $7,040 in contributions, but only $100 of that amount originated from his own District 3. This leaves little doubt as to his base of support -- Jackson and interests outside his own district.

It is not unreasonable to expect our Supervisor to display the ability to work and communicate with all constituents and be available to answer questions from the voting public. To be able to explain and discuss your reasoning for the positions you hold is critical for any public official.

We should demand nothing less.

The answer as to why Ted Novelli won’t debate can be found in the issues discussed at UpcountryInfo.com.
