The results of the first candidate debate

My thanks to the Volcano Community Association for holding the first candidate forum last night at their beautifully restored Town Hall. It was an important exchange of ideas, but unfortunately the incumbent, Supervisor Novelli, was not there. It turned out that Supervisor Novelli found it preferable to attend the monthly Amador County Chamber Mixer at the Sutter Hill bowling alley.

These Chamber mixers always begin at 5:30, which would have allowed for an hour or so to mix and then make it to Volcano in time for the election forum in order to meet with some upcountry residents, address them and interact with the candidates for his seat. However, Mr. Novelli did manage to conveniently stroll late into the Volcano Town Hall, while the other two candidates were answering some final questions. He did not even bother to introduce himself to the group or apologize, and just created a distraction from what otherwise was a positive exchange between his challengers.

It does not surprise me that Mr. Novelli has decided to “remain silent”,  preferring not debate and instead “stand on his record,” somehow pretending that this entitles him to make appearances without having to listen to or respectfully address his constituents. This is another example of Supervisor Novelli’s priorities and pre-occupation with County interests, that continue to be put before the interests of his own District 3 constituents.

I look forward to seeing many of you this Saturday, 3/15/13, at the Mace Meadow Golf Course Event Center from 2-5pm, in order to listen to your concerns and answer the hard questions over some complimentary food and music.

Truly yours,

Mike
